Landmark Structures set to complete work on project for ZUMIX and East Boston Community Development Corp.

Former firehouse renovated into music/arts educational center

WOBURN, EAST BOSTON, MA, ISSUED NOVEMBER 20, 2009…Landmark Structures Corporation, a leading full service General Contractor/Construction Management Company since 1993, anticipates a November completion date for a joint venture renovation project between ZUMIX and the East Boston Community Development Corporation.

Landmark Structures has served as General Contractor for the estimated $2 million project that encompasses the renovation of a 9,000 square foot former firehouse at 260 Sumner Street in East Boston into the new home of ZUMIX, a non-profit cultural organization dedicated to building community through music and the arts.

ZUMIX and the East Boston Community Development Corporation, in a joint venture, purchased the former fire house from the City of Boston.

The circa-1920’s structure, known as the Engine Company 40 Firehouse, was completely gutted to accommodate the renovation. The building will house offices, a radio station, recording studio, a music production studio, classrooms and performance space for ZUMIX.  The new building will be a LEED® certified structure; as such it is being constructed around the core elements of LEED ® standard elements, including site sustainability, water efficiency, energy efficiency, materials content, indoor environmental quality and innovative design.

“We have enjoyed being a part of this exciting project; once completed over the next few weeks this center will serve as a source of education and entertainment for many young people in East Boston and for the community at large,” said William J. Glasser, President/CEO of Landmark Structures.
