Austin Post Launches Interactive High School Football Site and iPhone App
Austin -

AUSTIN - SIDELINE, www.apsideline.org, a new online site run by high school students, has launched just in time for Texas state high school football playoffs.

SIDELINE is a football fan's dream: live reporting on the games, all the info on area high schools, and smack-talk between the teams in the week's matchups. The site focuses on high school football as well as life as a high-schooler.

The SIDELINE app for the iPhone includes articles, real time reports, and smack-talk matchup chat boxes, just like the website. High school students report live from the games, with up-to-the-minute reports on what's happening. In last week's Westlake-San Antonio Madison thriller, SIDELINE reporter hmg21 captured the glory of the winning touchdown in the last 10 seconds of the game in a real time report.

Westlake High School SIDELINE reporter Steven Wilbanks says, "SIDELINE is the future of high school news and networking. It lets students be the reporters for their peers. Working together, the school day will get covered, everything from academics to clubs to sports, and even more, all coming from the students themselves. This social networking and live coverage idea is the future of the Internet, and SIDELINE is one of the first to really pull this idea together into a fun and exciting environment for students to truly be themselves."

SIDELINE is a microsite of online newspaper Austin Post (www.austinpost.org), both are non-profits funded by the Trilogy Employee Foundation. SIDELINE is run by high school ambassadors from its participating high schools who edit the pages, post articles, and plan the site's focus.

Austin Post Editor-in-Chief Lyssa Myska Allen, who oversees the high school ambassadors, says, "SIDELINE is really cool because there's nothing like it out there. There are plenty of people commenting on and interested in high school football games, but no one hears from the players and their peers themselves. We're giving them a voice."
