GZA GeoEnvironmental Inc Leads the Way in New Jersey with LSRP Licensing

FAIRFIELD NJ AND NORWOOD MA…ISSUED DECEMBER 4, 2009… GZA GeoEnvironmental, a leading environmental and geotechnical consulting firm, recently announced that Benjamin Alter, P.G, is one of the first in the state to receive initial licensure as a Site Remediation Profession under New Jersey’s new Site Remediation Reform Act.

Alter, a principal in the firm’s Northern New Jersey office, is the first professional in the firm to be licensed to certify his work product on the state’s backlog of site remediation cases. Alter’s extensive experience and knowledge make him uniquely qualified to remediate severely contaminated sites.

The Site Remediation Reform Act recently passed by the New Jersey State Legislature and signed by Governor Jon S. Corzine enables experienced environmental consultants to meet rigorous licensing requirements and investigate and remediate contaminated sites. This program will address the growing number of backlogged cleanup sites across the state, accelerating the transformation of these sites into useable land that will create revenue. There are over 20,000 know contaminated sites in New Jersey.

Alter, along with John Oberer of GZA’s Ft. Washington PA office, are founding members of the New Jersey’s new LSRP Association and serve on its steering committee. Oberer and several other GZA professionals are expected to receive licenses and GZA will continue to be well-prepared to service its clients under the state’s new site remediation procedures.

GZA was one of the leading companies in a similar program undertaken in Massachusetts and has taken an active role in the development of New Jersey’s Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP) program.

“GZA staff has taken a leading role in this development, participating in hearings before the New Jersey State Legislature and in discussion with the state Department of Environmental Protection for the past year as the legislation was being developed,”

said William R. Beloff, President and CEO of GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. “The New Jersey program is modeled closely upon the proven, successful Massachusetts program, in which GZA has been an industry leader for many years.
